Description
Torrecchia Vecchia is a big estate, characterized by meadows, pastures, trees, forests of cork and architectural remains of an ancient castrum of the Middle Ages.
With regional decret in 2007 became “Monumento Naturale”: 600 hectares of forest and spectacular cork oaks surrounding castrum have been recognized nature reserve.
During Roman period it was a big farm, which later became a settlement defended by walls in the XI century, and a castle with fortified walls and towers in XV e XVI centuries. Ceased territorial control function, in XVIII century Torrecchia turned to his native agricultural purposes with the building of an elegant country house. In XX century, Prince Caracciolo commissioned the landscape architect Dan Pearson for the plant of a wonderful romantic garden on the Ninfa model.
