Description
Built by the Duke Bonifacio Caetani (1560) incorporating the medieval Rocca Frangipane, because of the Second World War the most ancient and prestigious wing with large halls decorated by illustrious painters as Girolamo Siciolante, the parisian Étienne Dupérac and maybe the brothers Taddeo and Federico Zuccari, was destroyed. Today, in the so-called “Sala Zuccari” there’s a large and elegant fresco depicting eighteenth-century pontine holdings, the inscription in memory of the Pope Alessandro III stay, during the night before the coronation in Ninfa, and the trompe l’oeil frescos in the “Sala della Loggia”. Under the building there are the deep and suggestive grottoes, while in the characteristic porticoed courtyard are also located the ancient roman well and the acces to the Torre Frangipane. On the top floor, permanent exhibitions on the Buttero, archeology and painting are set up. The palace hosts the civic library and numerous exhibitions, shows and ceremonies.
